Worst Offensive Series Ever?

Spurrier's Gator Offense faces 3rd & 57

BRETT CIANCIA
January 30th, 2014
Ranked #3 and undefeated early on in the 2000 season, the Ol' Ball Coach brought his Gators into Starkville to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs.  After multiple sacks - one for a safety - on starter (and current ESPN analyst) Jesse Palmer, Spurrier put in young Rex Grossman.  His famous "Fun and Gun" passing offense was working effectively until about 10 minutes left in the 4th.  Trailing by 8, Florida was at least nearing scoring range until possibly the worst series of all-time ensued... watch for yourself (below):
Ironically, the only good shotgun snap of the series was the designed intentional safety.  The 10-point deficit proved insurmountable, as Mississippi State dealt Florida its first loss of 2000 and broke UF's 72-game winning streak against unranked foes.  Florida finished with NEGATIVE 78 Rush Yards - an output that 2013 Al Borges (Michigan) can appreciate.
Retreating 50+ yards in 3 plays on a crucial 4th quarter drive, resulting in a voluntary safety ... Worst Ever?
